Junior Class Policies

Registration

You can register for our junior tennis classes in person, over the phone at 612.252.8367 or online via Club Automation. If you are opening a new account, you must purchase a patron membership before you can view and sign up for classes.

NOTE: If you are registering for drop-in match-days, you can't do so online; call us at 612.252.8367 ext. 0. 

Players need a Junior Patron Membership or a family membership to sign up for our junior tennis classes.  The $50 junior fee is valid for a year from purchase. 

Classes must be registered for and paid in advance. Your payment secures a spot in a class. Junior tennis class fees can be added to a patron's house account only if a patron membership has been purchased, a valid credit card is on file and all outstanding balances have been paid.

All players must sign a waiver before they step onto our tennis courts. You will be able to sign the waiver when you register on-line.

If a class is full, Club Automation will say "Please call." If you continue with registration anyway,  your player will be placed on a waiting list. You will be contacted in order of registration if there is an opening.

Class Levels

New players registering for our junior tennis program may need to be evaluated. Evaluations are only for new players or players who have missed/took off a session. Email Isaac McBroom with a detailed background (age/grade, tennis background, school, etc.) to see whether an evaluation is necessary: isaac@fwtec.org. Players in current sessions will be approached by coaches for any evaluation needed.

Players will be approached by a member of the teaching staff when a move to the next class is warranted.  If this does not happen, register for your current class.  Parents are asked to respect this process and to not  make  requests regarding class placement.  

Make-ups and Refunds

No make-ups will be offered for any reason, with the exception of religious holidays and medical emergencies with a doctor's note to Isaac McBroom at isaac@fwtec.org.

Decisions about weather-related class cancellations will be made ONE HOUR prior to class time. You can check our class cancellations page or our Facebook page for the most recent updates. 

If a player has stayed home from school due to an illness, he/she is asked to stay home from tennis class as well.  This will help protect our patrons and staff from contagious illnesses.

Refunds will be issued only if a student cancels at least seven days prior to the start of registered classes. No refunds will be given if cancellation is made within seven days of the start of classes.

Adult Drill and In-House League Policies

MEMBERSHIPS

League and Drill players are required to maintain both a USTA and a FWTEC membership.

REGISTRATION: 

You can register for leagues and drills in person, over the phone at 612.252.8367 or online via Club Automation.  If you are opening a new account, you must purchase a patron membership before you can view and sign up for the league.  

Patrons may reserve courts up to 7 days in advance starting at 6am.

Non-patrons may reserve courts the day of play.  Payment is due at the time of reservation.

We require a 24 hour notice of cancellation or full court fee/drill fee will apply.

Reservations are first-come, first served.

Electronic Communications Policy

Purpose Statement:  The electronics communication policy is in place to ensure transparent and proper communication between staff of Fred Wells Tennis and Education Center and participants.

As part of Fred Wells Tennis and Education Center’s emphasis on safety, communications involving any participant, and especially our minor participants under the age of 18, should be appropriate, productive, and transparent. However, the use of mobile devices, web-based applications, social media, and other forms of electronic communications increases the possibility for improprieties and misunderstandings and also provides potential offenders with unsupervised and potentially inappropriate access to participants. The improper use of social media, mobile and electronic communications can result in misconduct. Adherence to the Electronic Communications Policy helps reduce these risks. 

All electronic communication between staff and player must be for the purpose of communicating information about team/individual activities, including private lessons. Staff, players and parents/guardians must follow common sense guidelines regarding the volume and time of day of any allowed electronic communication.  To facilitate transparent communication directly with players ages 13 years of age or older, an official organization/team page or texting service may be set up.  All communication is logged and available to view by authorized persons.  Players older than 13 and/or parents/guardians may opt-in to send and/or receive communication through these official channels. 

For communication outside of an official team page or texting service, a parent/guardian must be included in on all communication with players under the age of 18.  If a parent/guardian wishes to not be copied in on communication with their child(ren), they must sign a waiver that explicitly expresses their permission for a staff member to communicate directly with their minor child(ren).  All content between staff and players should be readily available to share with the public or families of the player or staff member.  

Social media makes it easy to share ideas and experiences. Fred Wells Tennis and Education Center recognizes however, that social media, mobile and other electronic communications can be especially concerning where minor participants are involved. Staff may not have personal relationships with minor participants on social media platforms, including but not limited to, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat.

All electronic communication of any kind between a staff member and player, including use of social media, must be non-personal in nature and be for the purpose of communicating information about official organization activities or for team oriented motivational purposes. Social media and other means of electronic communication can be used to commit abuse and misconduct (e.g., emotional, sexual, bullying, harassment, and hazing). Such communications by any employee, volunteer, independent contractor or other participant of the Fred Wells Tennis and Education Center will not be tolerated.
