Lisa Mushett Named Capital Campaign Manager at Fred Wells Tennis & Education Center

Fred Wells Tennis & Education Center (The Fort) Executive Director Esther Tsai announced the hiring of tennis industry veteran Lisa Mushett as The Fort’s new Capital Campaign Manager. In her role, Mushett will work directly with Tsai and co-chairs Rick Rinkoff and Michelle Mingo as The Fort kicks off its $1.7 million Beyond Tennis: Building the Future Capital Campaign, ensuring The Fort is a nurturing place where everyone loves to play tennis, while continuing to enhance the development of youth in our community. The campaign will support state-of-the-art facility enhancements including expanding from eight to nine full-size courts with blended lines, the installation of two new “bubbles” complete with improved lighting, new energy-efficient technology within the bubbles and air conditioning, additional parking and storage spaces and much more.  Mushett begins her new position on July 18, 2018.

“I am thrilled to join the Fred Wells Tennis & Education Center family as they embark on this next chapter in continuing to bring people together of all ages, abilities and backgrounds through the life-long sport of tennis,” Mushett said. “It has always been a dream of mine to work at The Fort and I cannot wait to hit the ground running in seeing this state-of-the-art facility become a reality.”

Mushett comes to The Fort after serving as the Director of Marketing and Communications for USTA Northern since 2004. While at USTA Northern, Mushett oversaw all marketing and communications activities including serving as the primary writer and editor of its Northern Exposure magazine. She also managed all digital media for USTA Northern and was the tournament director of both the USTA Northern 50K Women’s Professional Tournament held at The Fort from 2004-09 and the Aquatennial Tennis Classic – a yearly tennis tradition held each summer in downtown Minneapolis featuring the best players in the area.

Prior to working at USTA Northern, Mushett served as the first and only female Media Relations Director for the University of Notre Dame football team. While at Notre Dame, she won over 35 awards for publications excellence from the College Sports Information Directors of America (COSIDA) and worked as an Associate Producer of ESPN’s Notre Dame Football: The Season in 2003.

Mushett graduated from the University of Texas – Austin with degrees in both public relations and speech communications and has a Master’s Degree in Sports Administration from the University of Illinois – Champaign/Urbana. She is a Professional Tennis Registry certified 10U teaching professional and is both a USTA and Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) certified chair, roving, referee and line official. She is also a USTA Certified National Officials Trainer and has worked the Big Ten Championships the past two years.
