We recently received a Youthprise grant of $15,000 for our new program: TennisWorks! Funds from this grant will help us support the development and integration of our Youth Advisory Board, which is a group of high school aged students who help make decisions to help further The Fort's mission.
Ten to twelve youth are regular Youth Advisory Board members, and two members serve as voting members for The Fort's Board of Directors. Each of our Youth Advisory Board members (YAB) are also matched with an adult mentor (a FRED of The Fort) who will support their personal, academic, and athletic growth. The FRED will also serve as a graduation coach for each of the YAB members. The Youth Advisory Board meets bi-monthly and engages in leadership experiences and conferences. YAB members and mentors will participate in Racial Equity Learning Communities with other staff members, board members and key stakeholders at the Fred Wells Tennis & Education Center.
The Fort is very excited to receive a grant to fund TennisWorks and the Youth Advisory Board! We are continually aspiring, inspiring, and perspiring to make The Fort a great place for kids to be leaders both on and off the court.
