The Aquatennial is here, and you know what that means--two weeks of outdoor tennis in downtown Minneapolis from some of the best tennis talent in the region!

The Aquatennial tennis tournament will feature a number of Fort tennis players!

Qualifying draws started yesterday (check out the bracket here). The main draws start tomorrow (bracket here). Matches run from 9am to 7pm, and admission is free (which is why downtowners flock to the matches every summer).

Some notable tennis talent will be competing in the 19th Annual Canadian Pacific Aquatennial Tennis Classic this year, including five-time Aquatennial men's champ Tony Larson, a St. Cloud State alum and big name in the region; former Gopher and touring pro Nic Edlefsen; and MN State Champs Joey Richards and Sonya Das. A few other Fort notables got teased in USTA Northern's tournament preview, too--"Junior sensation Alexis Nelson, who was ranked #1 in the country in Girls 16s in January, won a professional tournament in February and was invited to train with the US Fed Cup team is also playing women's singles and mixed-doubles with Maalik Konop-deFreitas." There's over $7,500 in prize money on the line during these two weeks of play.

Some other Fort names to look out for in the brackets:

David Stingley
Helen Klass-Warch
Taylor Parr
Jesse Sprinkel
Noah Sprinkel
Ali King

Be sure to get down to the Canadian Pacific Plaza (2nd Avenue & 5th St.) in downtown Minneapolis before the tournament's end--or at least check out the live video stream! Finals are slated for next Thursday and Friday--and they might even feature some Fort players!
